Virkon™ S is a virucidal disinfectant specifically developed to meet the practical biosecurity needs of agricultural and livestock activities. The powerful chemical properties of Virkon™ S, based on peroxygen chemistry, provide a broad spectrum of efficacy with a specific focus on organisms that cause viral diseases. It can be applied in the presence of animals, but should not be intentionally sprayed or directly applied to animals.
It eliminates over 500 strains of viruses, bacteria, fungi, and yeasts, including:
- Viruses: Equine arteritis, Infectious bronchitis, Infectious bursal disease, Coronavirus, Duck enteritis virus, Aujeszky’s disease, Newcastle disease, Porcine vesicular disease, Avian influenza, Canine distemper, Bovine papilloma, Canine parvovirus, Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), Rabies, and others.
- Bacteria: Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Brachyspira hyodysenteriae, Campylobacter spp, Clostridium spp, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Mycoplasma spp, Pasteurella multocida, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella choleraesuis, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pyogenes.
- Fungi: Aspergillus flavus, Candida albicans, and others.
It is effective against Newcastle disease, avian influenza, Salmonella, and Campylobacter.
Virkon™ S is a powerful biosecurity disinfectant with rapid action, flexibility, and versatility.
It overcomes the limitations of other disinfectants in terms of spectrum and activity by deactivating and destroying the target organism through a series of non-selective, broad-spectrum oxidation reactions. Unlike other disinfectant formulations, Virkon™ S does not have a specific toxicological effect on the target organism, and pathogen elimination has been demonstrated within seconds.
Operational Benefits:
- No need for rotation.
- Increased operator safety.
- Effective action at low temperatures.
- Easy to transport and store.
- Extraordinary environmental profile.
Indications, Recommended Dosage, and Instructions for Use
To estimate the total surface area to be disinfected, including walls and ceilings, multiply the total floor surface area by 2.5¹.

- Determine the volume of disinfectant solution needed with the appropriate dilution rate.
- Measure the appropriate amount of Virkon™ S powder to achieve the desired dilution rate.
- Add the Virkon™ S powder to water and vigorously stir to dissolve it.
- If using a pressure washer and other mechanical sprayers, the application rate of the Virkon™ S solution should be 300 ml/m².
- Clean and allow all surfaces to dry before disinfection.
