Properties

ZOTALIN® Collar is an antiparasitic collar for dogs, and its active ingredient is dimpylate. It is an external antiparasitic from the organophosphate group. The antiparasitic collar acts by inhibiting the parasite’s cholinesterase. It is effective against:

Ticks: Dermacentor variabilis, Otobius megnini, and Rhipicephalus sanguineus. Fleas: Ctenocephalides canis, Ctenocephalides felis, and Pulex irritans.

Dimpylate is metabolized through hydrolysis of the phosphoester bond, either directly or after oxidation to the corresponding oxidized analog, diazoxon. The latter is more toxic but less stable than dimpylate. This metabolism is slow in the parasite, maintaining its selective toxicity, while in mammals, due to faster metabolism, the toxicity is low.

Therapeutic Indications

The antiparasitic collar is used for external parasitic infestations caused by fleas (Ctenocephalides felis, Pulex irritans) and prevention of infestations caused by ticks (Dermacentor variabilis, Otobius megnini, Rhipicephalus sanguineus).
